Smart cards can offer consumers making Internet transactions greater online privacy, or at the very least, allow them the perception that they have greater control of their privacy, according to the head of BITS, the technology arm of the Banking Services Roundtable, who spoke about the results in a new study sponsored by BITS. During a panel on enhancing customer rela tionships at the recent CardTech/SecurTech 2001 conference in Las Vegas, Nev., BITS Chief Executive Officer Catherine Allen told attendees about findings from the group's recent "Consumer Attitudes and Behaviors Towards Privacy and Security" study. The study sampled about 5,000 consumers to determine their views on online privacy.
