The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has recommended its extensible markup language (XML) schema specification that could encourage interoperability among various e-commerce systems that use large volumes of data on the Web. W3C members support its adoption by the academic, industry, and research communities. The XML schema specification defines shared markup vocabularies, the structure of XML documents that use those vocabularies, and provides hooks to associate semantics with them. The specification stems from two years of development and testing.
