As Congress debates various proposals that could extend or permanently ban Internet taxes (REC, May 1, p. 18), the Bush administration has stated that it favors an extension on the current Internet taxation moratorium and a permanent ban on Internet access taxes. White House spokesman Ari Fleischer told a May 8 press conference that President George W. Bush plans to work with Congress on the duration of an extension to the current moratorium, established by the Internet Tax Freedom Act of 1998 and scheduled to expire this fall.
