摘要

All the world's media are still Shakespeare's stage. Nearly 400 years after the Bard's death, his works continue to inspire and be adapted by writers, directors and actors interpreting them for their contemporary audiences. In this substantial new encyclopedia, the editor, Professor of English, Media and Film at the University of Florida, attempts, in his own words, "a dialectical engagement with old and new media". Burt is conscious of writing in an age where databases like Titan TV have vastly aided information retrieval. In a stimulating general introduction, he points out that Shakespeare's texts have always beenrn"mediatized" - revised and altered from the time of their appearance and transmission. With a particular emphasis on the last century, Shakespeares after Shakespeare chronicles the playwright and poet's unrivalled influence on popular culture.
