The African Studies Companion: A Guide to Information Sources (4th revised and expanded edition)

The name Hans Zell and the title The African Studies Companion will be familiar to African studies librarians and researchers the world over. Zell has been instrumental in developing African bibliography, editing the African Book Publishing Record until 1998 and producing African Books in Print the last edition of which appeared in 2000. The African Studies Companion was first published in 1989 with further editions in 1997 and 2003. From the third edition a fully searchable electronic version containing links and updates has been available to purchasers at no additional cost. Also from the Hans Zell imprint is another pillar of African studies librarianship Africa: A Guide to Reference Sources, a long overdue second edition of which has just been published (Mcllwaine, 2007) and will be reviewed in a future issue of Reference Reviews.
