Feminism and feminist study up to this point has largely existed in the Western domain. We know all about the English proto-feminists such as Wollstonecraft, the development of French feminism personified by de Beauvoir and Cixous and the various incarnations of American feminism from Susan B. Anthony to bell hooks and Carol Adams. However, little is known, or has been written about feminist activity in central and eastern Europe: this biographical dictionary aims to redress the balance.
