"Advocates of a lifestyle that prizes simplicity and communion with nature", David (a Russianrnstudies specialist) and Melinda Egan are New York educationalists now "retired" to a barrier island of the coast of Georgia. They are known to academic Slavicists for their reference works on Leo Tolstoy, Russian autocrats and the Tsarist monarchy, and Vladimir Lenin. More recently, they have been involved in the development of an innovative distance-learning programme linking schools in New York and the former Soviet republics.
