I whooped with joy on receiving this book to review! I was so relieved that in this world of websites, discs and e-info, that there are still publishers brave enough to publish good old-fashioned heavyweight print directories. Not that there is not a case for a directory such as this to be on a website, there clearly is, and no, it is not, but for the legion of users seeking information on museums, galleries and buildings of historic interest who do not have direct access to websites and who despair of finding a free computer in their local library, or who have not the patience to decode the technical argot of the web designers whose screen displays are ever different from the last one used, the luxury of a book with large page spreads, alphabetical navigation and indexes, is joy indeed. Even without a close examination, I could see that editors Sheila Garrard and Alison Neale had achieved a monumental task. And I love them for that - brave women!
