The editors and the more than 100 contributors from all over the world have bought together information on over 300 fruits and nuts in this encyclopaedia. The entries are in alphabetical order of family. Within the families the various fruits are in alphabetical order of genus, and are described either at the genus level or the species level as appropriate. The entries are generally structured as follows: there is a general introduction that gives non-English names, which is followed by a brief account of world production and yield and a description of uses and a table of composition (rather like a food label). The botanical section covers description, ecology, reproductive biology and fruit development. The horticultural section has an outline of production, some information on vegetative reproduction and information on pests and diseases.
