The Berkshire Encyclopedia of China is the first multi-volume and multi-authored encyclopedia on the country in the English language to be published outside China, according to the publishers. It comprises five volumes, 2,754 pages and contains 800 entries authored by 296 Chinese and Western authors. The encyclopedia is aimed at the "general reader, students, teachers, businesspeople, government officials and tourists". China is now an important economic and political power having made tremendous changes, especially in the last twenty years. It is important that people living outside China have knowledge about China's past and present so as to better understand this important global power.
