Along with the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the National Endowment for the Humanities has become the go-to entity when libraries have collections they wish to digitize but lack the financial means to do so. The Digital Library on American Slavery, underwritten by an NEH grant, is one such collection made available by the University Libraries of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Partnering with the Race and Slavery Petitions Project, they have compiled a database of detailed information about slaves, slaveholders, and free people of colour.
