The compiler of a specialist lexicon faces difficult decisions about what words should be included in the work and what words should be left to the attention of other sources. The challenges of these decisions are not unlike the challenges that a reference librarian faces when considering whether or not to select a particular specialist dictionary for a particular context; both the librarian and the lexicographer must decide whether a particular item is a good fit for the audience that he or she has in mind.
