The first chapter serves as an introduction to a current overall trend: convergence of technologies. Whether it is a single search box access to library resources or repurposing spaces so that users can meet, research and collaborate all in the same place, the chapter's authors see this as the overarching theme that informs our near technological future. While they do not describe specific technologies, this chapter provides a useful perspective.
