摘要

"Collecting art is often described as a journey. This journey begins with looking and continues with acquisition, ownership, and -eventually -relinquishment" states the author in her conclusion. As a collector of art for over 30 years, this handbook seemed to be made for me, but on further reading it became obvious that with its overwhelmingly American bias, especially in relation to legal aspects, it would prove less useful than at first hoped. Its aim is "to serve as a generalist reference for the individual art collector [. . .]" though it is more of a professional handbook for those wishing to start a serious private collection, as well as for those "seasoned" collectors. Advice is also provided for those wishing to dispose of their collections for a variety of reasons such as change of taste, divorce, philanthropy or death. Handy for those considering downsizing!
