The message on the publisher's Web site gives the clue to this work: "many young adults say they don't feel prepared to make wise financial choices". It is aimed at "high school and college students" in the US context, setting out to describe and discuss "fundamental financial principles" that help decision-making, and provide a "financial landscape" for understanding key events and people in the financial world today. This world is not just one in which financial choices are important - for family, credit, debt, property, employment, retirement - but one in which there is national (US) concern about financial knowledge, above all among young people and people from poorer families.
