The Sage Encyclopedia of Classroom Management is available in two print volumes or online through Sage Knowledge. This review is for the online encyclopedia. Learning how to manage a classroom effectively is a difficult task for pre-service teachers. Beginning teachers are often anxious about the prospect of managing classrooms to avoid misbehavior and disorder, and the vast majority of beginning teachers believe that effective classroom management is what makes a good teacher. Fortunately, the past several decades have shown positive growth in the field of classroom management. The field has seen a shift from emphasizing methods for managing students, to instead emphasizing creating positive learning environments. Research into topics related to classroom management has also significantly increased. The Sage Encyclopedia of Classroom Management aims to extend these recent developments and further promote the field of classroom management.
