Historical Dictionary of African American Cinema

The Historical Dictionary of African American Cinema, originally published in its first edition in 2007, is a comprehensive source for African American cinema in the USA. The structure and layout of the dictionary is similar to the previous edition, while the content available has been updated and includes data from 2015. One of the most noticeable differences between the first and second editions, besides the obvious currency of the included information, is that the authors streamlined two of the appendices that were in the first edition into one for the second edition. The authors, S. Torriano Berry and Venise T. Berry, utilize their academic and professional knowledge of mass communications, writing and cinema to create an extensive, comprehensive tome. S. Torriano Berry is an award-winning independent filmmaker, author of both academic and fictional works and an Associate Professor in the Department of Media, Journalism and Film at Howard University. Venise T. Berry has authored fictional works that have been on the best sellers' list, and co-authored academic publications, while also being a recipient of a book award from the Black Caucus of the American Library Association. Venise T. Berry is currently an Associate Professor in the African American Studies, Journalism and Mass Communications program at the University of Iowa. With their combined knowledge and experience, they have authored a comprehensive Look that can be used by students, faculty and librarians.
