HEAVY LIFT 2009

Preparations are well underway for the BMFA's 2009 Heavy Lift Challenge, this year's competition once again being sponsored by Royal & Sun Alliance insurance. As before, the winning team members of each class will receive cash prizes along with a substantial sum for their university or school department.rnThe format for the competition remains largely unchanged and consists of two events. First and foremost there's the Heavy Lift Challenge in which teams are required to design, build and present a payload carrying aircraft powered by a standard Irvine 40 engine. Here, then, last year's winners successfully got their aeroplane to carry 8kg of ballast - pretty spectacular on a standard 40!
