THIS IS the second book by Anthony Sayer in the Pen & Sword series looking in detail, and I mean detail, at some of the more obscure early diesel types in the BR fleet, and some of those that were amongst the first withdrawals. Anthony did a truly superb job on his Class 21/29 book published last year and he's followed the same principle with this text. He started with a blank sheet of paper and has gone back to basics and researched afresh. He's done his work, often using official sources as much as anything else, to present the full story of this fascinating fleet of 20 Type 2 pilot scheme locos. While it is widely regarded that the locos, which became the Class 28s, were not an overriding success - they won no repeat orders and were all condemned by 1968 - nevertheless there has been much misinformation about the fleet that has been repeated ad infinitum over the years.
