The Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway is probably the best known heritage line in Scotland. Situated on the southern bank of the River Forth between Edinburgh and Grangemouth, it is picturesque and offers visitors the chance to sample the eras of steam and heritage diesel traction as well as having a superb museum that charts the history of railways north of the border. The heritage line runs for five miles between Bo'ness and Manuel Jn, although there is no connection to the national network's Edinburgh-Glasgow via Falkirk line. The BKR and Museum of Scottish Railways are run by Scottish Railway Preservation Society (SRPS) volunteers. The society also organises and runs the SRPS Railtours, a programme of day excursions allowing visitors to view the scenic splendour of Scotland or enjoy a trip to historic towns and cities south of the border.
