Hungary, one of the new members of the EU, has a fascinating railway system which is now easier to visit than ever as Keith Fender explains. Hungary is a medium sized country bordering Austria in the West, and, clockwise, Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia. Its rail network is well used not only by domestic trains but also by many international trains - it is quite easy to see rolling stock from 10-15 railways in the capital Budapest in a single day.
