West Somerset finally installs Minehead turntable

A major landmark in a £6m project to regenerate part of Minehead took place at the West Somerset Railway's Minehead station on February 11, when the former Pwllheli turntable, which was recovered by volunteers in the late-1970s and stored at Minehead ever since, was craned into place. Although it suffered a three-hour delay, the operation was successful, and means that visiting and fleet locomotives can be turned at the line's terminus.The turntable has been extended to 65ft long by Steelway Fensecure in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, and was returned to the West Somerset by road on February 10.
