DB acquires Arriva

German rail operator Deutsche Bahn, which already owns Chiltern Railways, Wrexham and Shropshire, and the former EWS freight operation, increased its UK rail interests by buying Arriva for nearly ￡1.6bn in late April.rnIt means it now has control of the Arriva Trains Wales and Crosscountry Trains franchises as well as Arriva's vast bus operations. It will also acquire the engineering arm LNWR, which along with Crewe IEMD will give it two engineering bases in the Cheshire town.
