A series of recent problems with Class 57s has hit First Great Western's popular Paddington-Penzance 'sleeper'. On November 1, 57604's fire bells went off just before departure and to isolate them, the 'sleepers' had to return to Old Oak Common (OO) so 57604 and 57605 could swap round, resulting in a 140min late departure.rn57604 was repaired later that day.rnThe following day, on departurern57605 was unable to take power due to a power fault, which was unable to be rectified at Paddington so 08483 Dusty came from OO to drag the train to Kensal Green, where the Class 08 was detached to take the 57 onto OO to be dumped, while 57604 ran round to become the train engine.
