The West Somerset Railway (WSR) enjoyed a record midweek steaming day on August 10, when more than 3,000 passengers were carried. The railway's General Manager Paul Conibeare commented: "It was the day of the Butlin's Minehead summer festival and the RAF Red Arrows put on a display, drawing crowds of more than 20,000 people to the sea front. With traffic at a standstill and parking very hard to find, our trains were an ideal way for local people and visitors alike to travel to the event." With so many travelling, the railway was forced to lay on extra trains to cope with demand, and access to Minehead station platform had to be restricted as it was full to capacity at several points during the day.
