Class 20 D8110 had one last outing in BR blue when it handled the South Devon Railway's diesel diagram on August 6. After this it was due to be taken out of traffic for a bodywork overhaul and repaint. Great Central Railway-based Class 27 D5401 has been out of traffic for the past 11 months for a generator overhaul. With the generator now back in place, the 27 was started successfully on August 7 and moved under its own power although a few control issues were encountered. When these had been rectified the locomotive was used to perform a small shunt.
