Line closures and tendering in Romania

The Romanian Government has issued instructions to national operator CFR to close over 1,000km of lines completely (although much of this may be out of use already) whilst also tendering for alternative operators on another 1,000km of lightly-used rural lines, some of which currently retain loco-haulage. Private operators, such as Regiotrans, have taken over many ex-CFR lines in the past mostly using a mixture of old French and German DMUs.
