Eddystone bows out

After ten years' service on the Swanage Railway, West Country Bulleid Pacific 34028 Eddystone was due to bow out with its last trains before withdrawal for a ten-year overhaul on August 17. It was due to replace the usual DMU on the SR's summer evening train with its last departure from Corfe Castle at 2230. Owner Southern Locomotives Limited hopes to have 34028's major mechanical overhaul - which includes work on its boiler and a new water tender - complete during 2017.
