THE UK'S largest freight operator DB Cargo has successfully reached agreements with the four trade unions representing a majority of its workforce, allowing it to press ahead with the launch of its new business model on July 2. The deal with ASLEF, RMT, TSSA and Unite has been under negotiation since October 2016 when the company announced proposals to cut almost a third of its workforce (893 jobs) in a restructure triggered by the rapid decline in its core market of coal. The working arrangements of employees will also be updated and modernised.
