Carnforth placed on 'at risk' register

The Crumbling Grade Ⅱ-listed coaling and ash plants at West Coast Railway's Carnforth base have been placed on Historic England's 'Heritage at Risk' register, due to their deteriorating condition. They are suffering from 'concrete cancer', a problem that was identified in the late 1980s. Experts are unclear as to whether they can be repaired. However, repair has never been on WCR's agenda, and in a statement, it said it was not aware of the 'at risk' listing by the body, previously known as English Heritage. Demolition looks like the only likely long-term outcome.
