CEO of Railnet International, Donald Kress, talks to Railways Africa Magazine about the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zambian Ministry of Transport - for a new Standard Gauge Railway Line. Estimated length of 1,000km, as a 30 year, BOT – Build Operate Transfer - going from North to South, from Livingston into the Copperbelt. The North American style railroad will be built with concrete ties, heavy haul ready and be used for freight (double stack) and passenger services. If all goes according to plan, construction should begin in the first half of 2021 with the view of significant local job creation and training.
