A total network length of 240 km spread over four routes, 65 stations (including halts), six million train-kilometres, 260 million euros spent on the routes and on station infrastructure and 190 million euros for 40 new class-425.2 train sets. The whole of the "S-Bahn" operation uses existing tracks, apart from a short new section between Mannheim and Ludwigshafen. Such are the vital statistics of a regional-express network that was launched on 14 December 2003 and runs on the territories of three of the German federal states: Baden-Wuerttemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse.
