Network Rail has rebuilt the railway near Ockley station, following a 30-metre landslip over the holiday period. The embankment is built from local Wealden clay. A section around a mile north of Ockley became saturated during December's heavy rain and sank under its own weight over December 24-26. NR said 500 tonnes of new material has been put in place, supported by a new wall of sheet steel, enabling the Horsham-Dorking line to reopen on January 4. A separate 15-metre section of the embankment was also repaired during the closure.
