Connex, a railway franchise

Out of Connex's one billion passengers per annum, five hundred million are carried by rail. Opening up the markets to regulated competition and to operation under franchises has transformed a traditional public transport company into a new type of railway operator with local and regional operations scattered around Europe and beyond. Connex operates 4,000 kilometres of railway line under contract with organising public communities in Germany, France, Great Britain, Sweden and Australia.
