Railway restructuring European goals and the Romanian approach

In the early 1990's the European Community adopted its first measure to make rail transport more competitive. In 1996 the European Commission proposed a general strategy for railway revitalisation. Member States started to reorganise their national railways. The Candidate States for EU membership are also part of this process.
