Infrastructure in the wake of the restructuring of the Railways of the Slovak Republic

The management of ZSR has succeeded in putting a brake on the negative progression of the company's bottomline. The losses of 5,849 million SK sustained in 1998 fell gradually to 4,203 million SK in 1999 and 4,034 million in 2000. Significant contributions from the national budget to fund the refurbishment of ZSR's installations is now expected. However, everything hinges on changing the way in which ZSR's operations are managed and organised, and not least the successful completion of the ZSR transformation programme, that the company might be converted into a commercial and market-driven entity.
