An interoperability project for South-East Europe

After outlining the position of the rail mode on the transport market and providing a definition of the notion of interoperability (technical and commercial), the authors go on to examine progress made. Examples include coaches with independent wheels, wagons with gauge-adjustable wheelsets, the European traffic control/command system, the interoperable ground-to-train radio communications systems, dual or triple current traction technology.
