A growth strategy for Indian Railways

Nevertheless, with the rapid changes in the economic environment specially in the context of liberalization of Government's economic policies and emergence of state of the art technologies, customised transport demands and unbundling of state owned monopolies, it was imperative to initiate reforms on Indian Railways particularly in regard to technology, investments and market orientation. The free movement of prod- ucts and technologies all over the world has brought in stiff competition. Only the fittest can survive in this stiff competition. Indian Railways having recognized this have tightened their belts not to be left behind in this rapidly changing environment.
