Traffic flows along the railway line in the Southern Ardennes that links Belgium, and more specifically the Port of Antwerp, with Luxembourg, Eastern France, Switzerland and Italy have always had a major impact on the freight activity of B-Cargo, the freight division of SNCB/NMBS, the Belgian National Railways. About 25% of all traffic flows operated by B-Cargo are channelled along this line of route: traffics for the steel industry in Luxembourg and Southern France, petrochemicals industry in Eastern and South-Eastern France, automotive industry in France and Italy, containers and swap bodies with Switzerland and Italy, are just some of the heavy, fast growing traffic flows.
