Smarter working for Southampton blockades

Of the 50 structures to be modified under Network Rail's programme to provide the W10 loading gauge between Southampton and Nunea-ton, by far the most difficult is the 483 m long tunnel east of Southampton Central station (RB1350 p3). Costing a total of £71 m, the W10 programme will enable 9 ft 6 in high containers to be carried on conventional wagons, requiring the track through Southampton Tunnel to be lowered.
