Within the existing contract categories (p6), level crossing schemes (Type D) have not been able to meet budgetary expectations. Network Rail hopes that 'something new' will enter the marketplace during Control Period 4.rnIn preparation, NR has set up the National Level Crossing Programme Team based in York. Arnprocurement approach is being finalised and NR hopes to go out to tender during 2009.rnNR will produce ground plans, scheme plans and standard circuitry in-house. The aim is to adopt modular implementation using, ideally, two contractors to deliver approximately 40 crossings a year.
