The latest government statement on orders expected to be placed under the High-Level Output Specification for CP4 (pi) shows four main changes to the allocations of 'Net Additional Vehicles' as contained in DfT Rail's original Rolling Stock Plan published in January 2008. Firstly, the absence of new EMUsrnfor Northern Rail indicates that the Class 323 cascade has been reversed. Under the original RSP, Northern was to see a net gain of 24 EMU vehicles after cascading 17 three-car Class 323s to London Midland. This would have required the acquisition of 75 new EMU vehicles.
