While the speakers from Network Rail at the 1RSE conference on March 17 left the audience baffled when asked to explain the concepts which will underpin the development of NP's modular signalling strategy (p6), subsequent discussions at least provided some insight. Signalling engineers were confused by the use of the word 'modular' since modern electronic signalling is made up of standard modules.rnFortunately, one eminent sig-rnnalling engineer picked up a reference to geographical signalling and realised that the aim is to have a 'menu' of signalled track configurations which could be put together to make a complete line of route. This was subsequently confirmed.
