The draft Scotland RUS published for consultation by Network Rail on October 15 anticipates substantial passenger growth by 2025, with 38% more rail journeys forecast in Strathclyde. Between 90% and 115% more passenger-journeys are forecast in the Edinburgh commuting area.rnThe focus of proposed investment is therefore naturally the Central Belt, although the Aberdeen - Inverness route is also under pressure.
