Northern secures two-year extension

Northern Rail announced on May 13 that it had secured a two-year extension to its franchise, which will now run until September 15 2013. Held by a 50:50 joint venture of Serco and Abellio, the franchise included a two-year extension dependent on meeting targets for cancellations and delay-minutes caused by Northern, as well as providing agreed capacity on peak services between May 2009 and April 2010.rn"We are delighted that the improvements we have made to the punctuality and reliability of our services have been recognised', said Interim Managing Director Ian Bevan.
