Network Rail announced on January 15 that it had not only completed work to lower one track through the 483 m Southampton Tunnel over the Christmas and New Year period as scheduled, but had managed to lower the other track as well. This means that a similar closure planned for Christmas 2010 is no longeT required for the programme to provide the W10 loading gauge between Southampton and the West Midlands.
