Addressing the Campaign to Protect Rural England at its annual lecture on November 13, Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin confirmed that an independent panel would be set up to ensure 'the highest quality design' for structures along High Speed 2.The panel would broadly follow the example of similar bodies set up prior to the start of construction of Crossrail and the Olympic Games venues. It would bring together design engineers, planners, architects and local people and environmental groups to ensure structures along the route are 'sensitive to local character'.
