NR awards contingent labour contracts

Network Rail announced on February 25 that it is to award five-year contracts to supply contingent labour for infrastructure work, averaging around 500 people per day. The number of suppliers will be consolidated from 57 to 20, with four core suppliers (right) accounting for 70% of NR's needs. With a total value of 'at least £450m', the contracts due to start on April 1 will include a new code of conduct. Suppliers will be expected to pay at least the London living wage within Greater London, invest in training and development, minimise travel time, adopt NR safety rules and incident-reporting systems and provide all equipment and protective clothing to workers free of charge.
