RMT to strike again in Southern DOO dispute

Govia Thameslink Railway is pressing ahead with implementation of the new role of Onboard Supervisor, looking to replace guards on many Southern services and transfer responsibility for door operation to drivers. On August 21 Revenue Protection Officers at Southern became the first group of employees to transfer to the new role, now undergoing in-service training on existing DOO services. Southern told RBI that services currently operated with a conductor 'will continue to operate this way until conductors transfer into the new role'. It stressed that the phased introduction programme would not happen 'overnight'.
