Welsh Government outlines infrastructure plans

In a speech on December 14, Economy Et Infrastructure Secretary Ken Skates outlined the Welsh Government's plans for infrastructure investment over the next five years. These include the delivery of the South Wales Metro, the development of a North Wales Metro and procuring the replacement Wales Et Borders franchise. In his speech, Skates made clear the importance of transport modes working together to maximise the impact of this 'historic multi-billion pound investment which includes significant European Union funding'. The 'collective challenge' was to use this investment 'creatively and collaboratively to sustainably develop a world-class transport system that delivers the very best results for Wales', he said, calling for greater devolution of transport powers to Wales, including rail infrastructure funding.
